As some of you know, I'm a big Mario fan and wanted to know what others thought of his 2D game and his 3D conversion.

Having played all his 3D games, apart from the original Super Mario 64 on Nintendo 64.

I enjoy them all, but have to say this is my order of preference for his 3D titles:

1, Super Mario Galaxy - best 3D platformer ever made in my opinion
2, Super Mario 64 DS
3, Super Mario Sunshine

I like Mario Sunshine, but do prefer the others for the fact that you collect stars not shrines.  Also my 2 main complaints with Mario Sunshine is the camera and the FLUDD system, the camera is at times aweful and I find the FLUDD cleaning up abit reptitive.
I havn't played much of Mario Sunshine, as I've just recently purchased it, so maybe I need to get used to the set-up.

What does everyone else think about those titles and do other like Mario Sunshine alot?

Now to his 2D Side Scrollers, my favourites are as follows:

1, Super Mario Bros. 3 - which I have on GBA and play on my DS and via my Gamecube Gameboy Player
2, New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
3, Mario vs Donkey Kong (GBA)

I havn't played Super Mario Bros. 2 and have yet to purchase Super Mario World.  I've heard great things about them both, esp Super Mario World, I've even heard that it beats out Super Mario Bros. 3.

I havn't played any of Mario's sports titles, apart from Super Mario Strikers Charged on Wii, and I didn't like it that much, I don't really like alot of those cartoony sports titles, but I have heard good things about his Tennis titles.

Anyway tell me your thoughts on your top Mario platformers

I never owned my own copy of Mario 64, but I played borrowed/rented copies to death every chance I had. Since then though Mario just hasn't wow'ed me so I've made it a habit to steer clear of the games (although I will probably end up trying Galaxy at one point and who knows...)

The only reason I even own Mario 64 DS is because back when the DS launched, it was the only actual 'game' available. Everything else at the time were pointless minigame collaborations. However, playing the same game I already went through on the N64 wasn't the way to bring me back to the Mario fans. I borrowed NSMB from a mate and was done with it within a day, again lack the spark to wow me. As for Mario Kart, I more into Wipeout/F Zero now over kart racers (but still willing to give MK Wii a try)

MKWii is fantastic. Its like the DS version but without all the problems and with everything done properly. Probably wont wow you but that doesnt mean its not excellent.

Super Metriod is better than all of the 2D Mario games. If you insist on a 2D Mario title then Id have to say the only one that Ive ever enjoyed: Yoshis Island.

My god Anthony you don't like Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros.?

Yoshi's Island in my opinion is the worst Mario game.

Are you a Metriod Fan Boy Anthony?  I didn't like Metriod Prime and if the side scrollers are like that, then no way is it better than Mario, no way at all.  Anyway the Topic was Mario games, not Metriod games.

Super Metroid>> 2D Mario games

The only exception to this rule is the 'Super Mario All Stars' cartridge containing enhanced versions of all the NES games, along with Super Mario World. And the only reason it wins out is because of value for money (with this being economical gamer and all..)

No way........  Mario is in my opinion the most whored out gaming series of all time.

Fixed!

Seriously, I've never met an Italian plumber who was an expert in go karts, tennis, golf, baseball, football, basketball, martial arts and party throwing. Maybe if they killed off the Mario series for a couple decades, Megaman could hurry up and overtake him as the most whored out series.

Yea it was my first 2D Metroid. I then went back to Super Metroid after loving it so much. Super Metroid has terrible graphics and isnt quite as accessible but its definately better. Fusion was short and sweet, but Super Metroid was long and sweet.

I still need a copy of Zero Mission. Sad
